Want to stretch and grow your fair isle skills? Looking to tackle more complicated color schemes but not ready to commit to a sweater? These mittens are for you! 

Three 2 hour classes 

Skills needed:

  • Chart Reading
  • Knitting in the round in small circumference (magic loop, double points, etc.) 
  • Prior Fair Isle Experience 

Skills learned:

  • Color Theory
  • Yarn Dominance
  • Mastering More than Two Colors Per Row
  • Afterthought Thumb


  • Worsted Weight Yarn in the Following Amounts: 
    • MC1: 220 yards
    • MC2: 50 yards
    • CC1/CC2/CC3/CC4: less than 40 yards each 
  • Depending on Size Selected / Individual Gauge Either: US#3, US#4, or US#5 in a format to support small circumference circular knitting (e.g., magic loop, double points/flexi-flips, or two circulars in the round) 
  • Optional: Thread Guide/Norwegian Thimble, Bobbins 
  • Hickory Mitten Pattern (Available on Ravelry)


Cast on (tubular cast on optional - long tail is an acceptable substitute) the cuff of the first mitten and knit. Prepare contrast colors on bobbins if you’re choosing to use them.
