Inspired by all those amazing intarsia patterns, but intimidated to try it? Jump in with an approachable pattern that will have you breezing through intarsia in no time. Tanager is a simple but statement-making colorblocked scarf that knits up quickly in a bulky weight yarn. 

One 2-hour session

Skills needed: Casting on, knitting garter stitch, experience with other types of colorwork is helpful but not essential.

Skills learned:

  • class will focus on mastering the intarsia technique, but students will also have the option of learning a crochet cast on and how to weave in ends as they knit. 


  • 545 yards of bulky weight yarn in 5 colors (~100 yards each). We recommend Manos Del Uruguay Cardo.
  • Needles in US#10 or size necessary to get gauge
  • A copy of the Tanager pattern by Quinn Reverendo
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Optional crochet hook in a suitable size if you’d like to do the crochet cast on.
