Intro to Sweater Making: WE Oct 6, 13 & 20, 7-9 pm

Fitting a sweater can be a difficult task. Not only does the Rift have two necklines, optional bust darts, and custom fit bicep, you will have a teacher to help you on your way to success. With this size inclusive pattern you will learn bottom up construction, how to pick up stitches, German short rows, and the 3-needles bind off.

Three 2 hour sessions

Skills needed:  knit, purl, and knit In round

Skills learned: 

  • Swatching and gauge
  • Taking Body Measurements 
  • Reading a schematic and selecting size
  • Following sweater instructions
  • Increasing and decreasing
  • German Short Rows
  • Hold Stitches, Pick Up From Scrap Yarn
  • Finishing


  • Yarn: 550-1025 yard sport weight yarn. See sizes below to find the correct yardage for your size.
  • US 8 (5.0 mm) long circular needle, and needles for preferred method of small circumference knitting (magic loop, two circulars, or DPNs) or size needed to obtain gauge of 16 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette
  • Stitch Markers
  • Spare Yarn or Stitch Holders
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Optional: Susan Bates Stitch Fixer Tool or Crochet Hook for picking up stitches
  • A Copy of Rift by Jacqueline Cieslak, available on Ravelry

Finished bust circumference: (40, 44, 48) [52, 56, 60] {64, 68, 72} inches

Yarn requirements by yardage: (550, 600, 650) [700, 750, 800] {875, 950, 1025} 


Before First Class:  Purchase yarn and complete a gauge swatch before arriving to class. Swatch should be blocked.
