Top Down Set in Sleeve Sweaters: TH Feb 10, 17 & 24, 7-9 pm

Do you love being able to try on top down sweaters as you knit, but have trouble getting raglan or circular yoke styles to fit well? In this class we’ll learn Elizabeth Doherty’s method for knitting set in sleeves from the top down so you can achieve a more tailored look without sacrificing the benefits of starting at the neckline. Students can choose either the Clarendon pullover or the Sans Serif cardigan to make in class. 

Three 2 hour classes

Skills needed:  casting on, increasing, decreasing, working in the round, picking up stitches.

Skills learned: 

  • Benefits & disadvantages of different sweater constructions 
  • How to measure and choose a size for a set in sleeve sweater
  • Working short rows to shape shoulders and sleeve caps
  • Picking up stitches evenly for neckline and/or button band
  • Optional inset front pocket technique


  • Yarn: 1072 - 1876 yards worsted weight yarn for Sans Serif or 850 - 1530 yards aran weight yarn for Clarendon
  • Needles in US#9 US#7 and US#5 for Sans Serif or sizes necessary to get gauge
  • Needles in US#8, US#9, US#10, and US#10.5 for Clarendon or sizes necessary to get gauge
  • Stitch markers, 1 beginning of round marker and at least 4 other removable markers
  • Tapestry Needle
  • A copy of Clarendon or Sans Serif by Elizabeth Doherty, both available on Ravelry
