Join Shetland-born knitwear designer Gudrun Johnston to learn Shetland lace knitting techniques! Shetland wool included in workshop fee.

In this class, we will explore the techniques and patterns that pertain to Shetland Lace knitting. We will practice knitting the more complex lace patterns, where motifs are worked on both the RS and WS of the work. We will also look at the different shawl construction methods used and learn some historical context for this iconic Shetland tradition.

Examples of Gudrun’s designs using Shetland Lace will be available to view in class.

Skills needed:

Basic lace skills (experience working increases and decreases) required.

Materials:

• Shetland Lace yarn (supplied as part of class fee)
• US 6 24 inch circular needle, stitch markers
