Spinning Clinic - 3 plys 3 ways
Availability: | In stock (8) |
You’re comfortable spinning single ply yarns and 2-ply, but maybe it’s time to play with adding another strand into the mix! There’re lots of different ways to create 3ply yarn, but this class will focus on just 3 to start you off. Multihued examples like Spin Cycle’s Dreamstate show off a classic 3 ply structure, while chain-plying allows you to create distinct 3 ply color sections out of one single. And for that extra unique factor, crepe yarn’s counterpoint construction lets you play with plying multiple times. Each of these techniques creates a 3 ply yarn, and we’ll discuss the strengths, weaknesses, and considerations for each in this two-week class as we create little samples.
Materials:
- Drop spindle/supported spindle/e-spinner/spinning wheel
- Fiber for spinning (multiple colors can be fun to play with here, but everything can be done in a single color if desired)
- Lazy Kate for plying
Homework:
Spin 3 singles (in the same direction, typically z-twist or clockwise), one significantly longer than the other two, and be ready to start plying them in class.
